TWIR Design brief.
It was quickly understood Morningstar wished to create a unique corporate headquarters servicing the Asia Pacific Region which supported the ever expanding roll out of there other international offices. It was to provide open workspace with semi private and private support amenities. Mixed meeting areas with work zones, break-outs and cafe areas were to encourage chance meetings with generic workplace modules to allow for innovative equal work methods, flexibility and open communication. Above all the outcome was to be viable, an enduring design solution allowing long-term benefits for Morningstar's growth and its staff. Morningstar sought a classically designed space focusing on restraint, functionality and longevity. The design wasn't to be about revolutionizing design principles; instead Morningstar required the fit out to represent their non hierarchal relaxed professional brand and its position in the financial market. Morningstar required a work environment that focused on open communication that would assist the integration of the merged companies.
It is a restrained, warm, welcoming and comfortable in its feel, yet is a space that provokes people to see the company professionally much like the people who work there. It is a conservatively luxurious environment focusing on the architectural elements of Harry Seidler's masterpiece Australia Square.
The radial planning is simplistic with all the modules based on the radiating segments of the building plan.
Being on the high rise levels of Australia Square there needed to be a level of transparency so all access the sweeping Sydney views. The support areas utilize the existing core of the building allowing this happen. The interconnecting stair is positioned so the views are maintained while allowing direct access for clients and staff via the cafe and conference rooms.
The material palette is elegant, classic and rich to portray Morningstar in a sophisticated and professional manner. The detailing is honest, refined and understated, enhancing the beauty of the selected materials.
